This is my first blog post in collaboration with Ahead of the Curve. I am honored to be a part of the group. We are a collective of plus-size bloggers of varying shapes, sizes and styles. Once a month we choose a new fashion theme and show you different interpretations of it on our blogs. This month we are sharing our take on “Red Hot”!
I found this Red Hot top by designer Laurence Kazar at a local thrift store conveniently located 5 minutes from my place. I stalked it for about two weeks in an effort to buy it for the lowest price possible. My strategy literally paid off because the original price of $20 was marked down to $7. Now that’s a deal! It was still great condition, with very few beads and sequins missing.
Skirt: I found this black pencil skirt on a clearance rack at Rainbow about two years ago for $5. This was one of my smartest purchases ever. The color hasn’t faded at all since I bought it. It’s super comfy and stretchy, and matches with several garments in my closet.
I rarely shop at Kmart, but I was pleasantly surprised when I spotted these lace tights there. I bought a 1X and they fit perfectly. However, I wish they had a control top for added support. You can buy them online HERE for $7.99.
Accessories: The vintage velour earrings were a thrift find, costing only $1. I also bought the beret from Kmart, which was a seasonal item during the holidays.
Special THANK YOU to Chris of HVS Media for the lovely pictures!
This designer was known for creating glamorous garments with intricate beading details. His looks strived in the 70’s and 80’s disco era. Here are a few Laurence Kazar plus size designs:
