Friday Fashion Flashback! – Farrah Fawcett

Talented actress Farrah Fawcett was best known for her role in the 70s TV series Charlie’s Angels. Her blonde feathered hair, fresh face and beautiful smile were captivating.  She reached pop icon status in 1976 after posing in a red one piece bathing suit for a Cleveland poster company. This poster has sold over 12 million copies worldwide to date. Farrah’s iconic style truly defined 70s fashion, wearing looks with bold colors, bell bottoms and rompers. Here are some of my favorite looks

Thrifting Tips

This month Ahead of the Curve Bloggers are discussing Plus Size Thrifitng, which is right up my alley! I’ve been thinking about sharing a few thrifting tips for a while now, and this is the perfect opportunity. For those of you who don’t thrift often I’m sure it can be overwhelming at times, especially in stores that aren’t sized. Trust me there’s a method to the madness!  Just follow these Thrifting Tips and your shopping adventure will be a success!

1. Think Outside the Box
When thrifting it’s best to shop with an open mind. You can re-fashion just about any garment with a little creativity. Transform a dress from drab to FAB by adding a stylish belt and necklace. Turn tacky tye-dye jeans into shorts for summer. The possibilities are endless, just think outside the box!

2. Look for Sales
Many stores run weekly sales, so keep an eye out for discount signs. And don’t be afraid to ask a sales associate about promotions. A nearby Salvation Army has 50% off a different color tag each week, and I take full advantage!

3. Shop Every Section

It’s important to shop every section. Clothing, accessories, shoes, housewares, furniture, I mean EVERY SECTION! Go thrifting on a day when you have plenty of time to browse through each department. The best thrift finds are in the most unexpected places, that’s the thrill! You never know what you’ll find.

4. TRY ON!
You don’t want to waste money on clothes you can’t wear and the best way to prevent this problem is to TRY ON! Each brand fits differently so you can’t depend on the tag size. If the store doesn’t have a fitting room find a mirror and slip it on over your clothes.

5. Bring Your Thrifting Kit
My Thrifting Kit includes four essentials:
Cash: Some local thrift stores don’t accept credit, especially for purchases under $5 so bringing cash is a must.
Hand Sanitizer: Since you’ll be searching through pre-owned items it’s a good idea to keep a mini hand sanitizer in your purse to stay germ free.
Snack: Thrifting trips can sometimes take up to two hours so I always bring a snack, usually a granola bar, to keep my energy up.
Reusable Tote: Thrifitng is one of the best ways to recycle because you are literally turning one man’s trash to another man’s treasure. Another great way to  recycle is to shop with a reusable tote, and that prevents wasting plastic bags.

I hope these five basic tips were helpful! Happy Thrifting!
